70 YEARS OF BB IN UXBRIDGE
Formed in September 1951
Officially enrolled January 10th 1952
1951 - 1st Uxbridge Company was formed in September at the Methodist Central Hall, Uxbridge.
1952 - Company officially enrolled January 10th as part of the North West Middlesex Battalion. Captain -William Hawkins.
1952 - First Company camp – Bembridge, Isle of white
1953 - May - Life boy team started led by Mrs Phillis Campbell.
1959 - October - Cliff Bosley takes over as Captain.
1964 - Mrs Ann Pool takes over as Life boy leader.
1965 - David Campbell - 1st boy in the company to be awarded the Queens Badge. [The BB’s top award.]
1965 - Become part of the newly formed Hillingdon Battalion.
1967 - Brian Taylor awarded the Queens Badge.
1968 - Brian Taylor takes over as Junior Section Leader
1970 - Derek Presland, Paul Vincent & Thomas Batten all receive their Queens Badge.
1972 - Alan Hollaway takes over as Captain.
1972 - September - Moved from Methodist Central Hall, Uxbridge to the newly built Christ Church – (Methodist and United Reform Church).
1975 - Graham Hinton takes over as Junior Section Leader.
1977 - Shaun Mellet receives his Queens Badge
1978 - First combined camp with 1st Uxbridge Girls’ Brigade - Fairbourne Wales
1978 - September – Pre Junior section ‘ANCHOR BOYS’ started led by Mrs Eileen Cobbett
1980 - First Junior Section Weekend away with 1st Uxbridge Girls’ Brigade - Beaconsfield URC
1981 - Michael Read receives his Queens Badge.
1983 - Due to large number of boys a second Junior Section is started led by Mr Peter Cobbett.
1983 - Plant a tree and lay a Plaque in Fassnidge recreation ground to mark the centenary of BB.
1986 - Paul Edgeworth takes over as Junior Section Leader.
1986 - Junior Section (red) finish and two Sections combine into one.
1992 - Company celebrates its 40th Anniversary.
1992 - Performs ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ with Girls’ Brigade. Neil Palmer as Joseph.
1993 - Performs ‘Carrots’ (The story of the Barnardo’s homes) with Girls’ Brigade. Michael George as Carrots
1995 - Company gains FIRST PLACE in the Boys' Brigade's annual 'WALTHAM WALK'
2002 - Company celebrates its Golden Jubilee.
2006 - Paul Edgeworth takes over as Captain.
2006 - Bronze Duke of Edinburgh awarded to Daniel Moss, George Hollands, Peter Hull & Richard Maddy.
2006 - Peter Hull receives his Queens Badge.
2009 - Raise £750 for ‘Shooting Star’ Children’s Hospice on our Company Sponsor Day Challenge by stopping at 125 London Underground Stations in a day.
2010 - Raise £750 for the charity ‘Hands’ on our Company Sponsor day Challenge crossing the River Thames as many times as we could (14) in a day.
2011 - Raise £950 for the ‘Sue Ryder’ Charity on our Company Sponsor day ‘Great Monopoly Challenge’.
2012 - Company Celebrates its 60th Anniversary
2012 – Thomas Rees and Christian Hinton both receive their Queens Badge.
2012 - Raise £555 for ‘The Railway Children’ charity on our Company Sponsor Day. ‘London Terminus Challenge’ visiting all 16 London Terminus in a day.
2013 - Raise £900 this year for TWO charities ‘Sarah Grace Boxes’ and ‘Little Hearts Matter’( raising £450 for each charity), on our Company Sponsor Day. London Literary Challenge, visiting 14 points of interest connected to a literary theme.
2014 - Raise £801 for ‘Shay Kenny Miracle Fund’ on our Company Sponsor Day. River Challenge from Palace to Palace – Traveling from Lambeth Palace to Fulham Palace, crossing the river by various means 10 times.
2014 - Bronze Duke of Edinburgh awarded to Raghav Puri
2014 - Company start sponsoring Saido, a 6-year-old boy in the Gambia.
2015 - Raise £550 for ‘Riding for the Disabled’ (South Bucks Group), on our Company Sponsor Day. Sporting venue Challenge – Visiting 8 different sporting venues in a day.
2015 - Silver Duke of Edinburgh awarded to Raghav Puri
2015 - Ragav Puri receives his Queens Badge.
2015 - Company plant a shrub, (Christmas Rose) and fix our replacement plaque to once again mark the centenary of the Boys’ Brigade, in the small garden at the back of the church.
2016 - Company present Boys’ Brigade plaque to the Mayor’s Parlour on behalf of the Battalion.
2016 - Bronze Duke of Edinburgh awarded to James Bowman
2017 - Company and Senior boys enjoy an ‘Easter camp’ weekend on a narrow boat.
2017 - Silver Duke of Edinburgh awarded to James Bowman
2019 - James Bowman becomes a Warrant Officer in the company
2019 - Founder member, first boy on 1st Uxbridge books and former captain Alan Hollaway ‘Sir’ passes away
2020 - Company closes face-to-face meetings in March due to Covid 19 pandemic but continues to meet ‘virtually’ via zoom
2020 - Company welcomes new members in September transferred from the closure of 2nd Uxbridge and continue with online meetings.
2021 - Company restart face-to-face meetings in April with changes to accommodate covid regulations.
2021 - May, Company plant a rose, (Never Forgotten) in our BB garden. In memory of Mr. Hollaway.
2021 - Company restart in September in a more normal format with 22 boys.
2022 - Company celebrates its 70th Anniversary
2022 - GOLD Duke of Edinburgh awarded to James Bowman. James becomes the first member of 1st Uxbridge Company to achieve the award.
2023 - Our Junior, Company & Senior boys enjoy a visit to the Mayor's Parlour and take part in a mock debate chaired by the Mayor.
2023 - Our Company and Senior boys gain first place in the London District single line Drill competition and 2nd place in the 3 man Colour competition held in Enfield.
2023 - Our Juniors join with the Juniors from GB for our first Junior sleepover after covid. Visiting Kidzania.
2023 - Company and Senior boys enjoy a weekend on the narrowboat again.
