COMPANY REPORT 2018/2019
As we look back over another BB year we look back and reflect on the past year.
This year it is safe to say has not been one of our best years in more ways than one.
As you know our Anchor Section has unfortunately not been running again this year. We did briefly re start back in November but unfortunately, we did not have the support to continue past Christmas. Over the summer period we will be looking to put out posters to encourage new recruits, not only with the hope of reforming the Anchor Section, but to build up our Junior Section and Company Sections too.
In our Junior Section this year we have been at our lowest in numbers for some time. this aside the boys have continued to come along and we have managed a full programme. (Although it is a little difficult to do Figure Marching with only three boys!) We have continued our close relationship with our friends at 4th Hillingdon Juniors and, as they too have been low on numbers we have met regularly, once a month (where possible) alternately at each other’s premises to share activities, which has proved to be very popular. Unfortunately, due to our low numbers we were unable to compete in any of the competitions this year and so, for the first time in a long time, our trophy cabinet is bare!
We did however join the girls as usual for our annual Sleepover, well, one boy did! Daniel had a great time. This year we visited Kidzania in the Westfield shopping centre at Shepherds Bush, a mini city for Children. Although Daniel was the only boy for the whole weekend, the junior girls were happy for him to join in with them and it was great to see them all getting on well.
This year we will be saying goodbye to Nicholas, who is now moving on to Boarding School, however we will be promoting him into Company Section as he will be back at weekends and our doors are always open to him. Good Luck in your new school, Nickolas.
In Our Company and Senior Section this year we have continued with our usual weekly programme of activities. Our main highlight this year being our participation in the London District Single Line Drill and 3 Person Colour competitions. For most of the first half of the year the boys practiced tirelessly to perfect their routines under the guidance of their new young Drill officer. Mr Hinton had stepped down from the roll he had filled for the past few years and handed the responsibility on to James Bowman who fitted into the roll very well, training the boys ready for the big day. Unfortunately, we did not come away with any prizes, but the boys did themselves, their parents and the Company proud. Better luck next time boys!
We were pleased to welcome James Bowman as a Warrant Officer at the start of the session and part of James’s roll is to continue the work of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme in the Company. He has now completed all the courses needed and is qualified to take groups out for their expedition. That said we currently has two boys, Dmitriy and Nathen part way through their Bronze Award, having just completed their practice expedition a few weeks ago. James is also finding time to complete his GOLD DofE award and next week will be out for 5 days on his expedition.
On the whole it has been a good year in Company Section and, although the attendance of boys has been patchy for many reasons, we have still been able to run our activities.
In the Company Together We have continued to hold our usual Coffee mornings at Christ Church and this session have raised over £350 for company funds. A big thank you to those who have helped out, especially Mrs Bowman who has helped in the kitchen, and all those who have made cakes for us to sell, once again, a special mention must go to Mrs Newell, Luke and Nathan and Daniel’s nan, who has continued to provide us with top class cakes. WHAT WOULD WE DO WITHOUT YOU. THANK YOU.
We also continued with our annual Firework party in November, and as we have done in the past, offered invitations to local residents in the flats adjacent to the halls to try and further our profile.
As you all know this year held a very sad time for us all in the Company, especially those who have been part of 1st Uxbridge for a long time. We said goodbye to our former Captain and longest serving member Alan Hollaway who passed away back in March. Alan was the first boy to enrol into the company as a young 15-year-old in 1951. He was Company Captain from 1972 until 2006 and continued to work in the company until his death. Alan was devoted to Boys' Brigade and to the 1st Uxbridge Company. His enthusiasm and commitment to advance Christ's Kingdom amongst Boys never failed. I’m sure you will agree that our last item in this year’s display was a fitting tribute to him.
He will be and is very sadly missed by all. He will always be remembered, and we thank him for all that he has done. I am sure that he is looking down on us and watching over us.
I would like to thank everyone who has been involved with us over the past year. Thank you to all the staff, Graeme Moran, James Bowman & Graham Hinton for all they have done over the past year. To Helen Newell for her help in aiming to re start our Anchor Section. Thank you to Graham and James for their continued work with the Duke of Edinburgh achievement scheme and to Noellia Bowman for her help with both D of E and our coffee mornings.
As usual, and most importantly, a big thank you to all parents for your support throughout the year, for bringing the boys along on a Friday evening and for getting them to various activities. As I have said in the past, and will continue to say, I consider our company very lucky that we have parents who support us the way that you do.
Thank you too to our chaplain Nick and to members of Christ Church for your support and prayers throughout the year.
Finally, a last appeal. If you know of any boys between the ages of 5 and above who are at a loose end on a Friday evening, please point them in our direction. Our company needs boys to survive and to continue its work to advance Christ's Kingdom amongst Boys
THANK YOU ALL.
As this year comes to an end, we look forward to the 2019/20 session and all it brings. We pray that the following year will be a good one and we can continue to Advance Christs Kingdom among Boys.

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic there are no Captains reports for 2018/2019 or 2020/2021. However during this time the Company continued to meet virtually, via zoom. We took part in 'Virtual' Church Parades, had zoom quizzes with the Girls' Brigade and even had a Virtual Display, Our 'Big Virtual Get Together'. In the time that we were not meeting together we continued with our programme on line and refused to let the pandemic take away our BB meetings. A massive thank you to all the staff on their ability to provide a programme every week, and to the boys for attending our online meetings every week. We re-started face-to-face meetings (with restrictions) in April 2021 and continued until the end of the session in July.
